How to optimize power and pointing

This guide will provide you with the basics of tuning a J/27. Settings may vary on your sailing style, crew weight and your sailing conditions. We strongly recommend you experiment and find out which settings work best for you.

31" 4 1/8 from center of pin to center of pin.

J/27 Mast Butt Location

16" 6 3/4 from the transom/deck intersection to the back of the mast.

J/27 Rig Tension


Upper Shrouds: 3/16 wire = 1300 lbs.
Intermediate Shrouds: 5/32 wire = 300 - 350 lbs.
Lower Shrouds: 7/32 wire; light air = 1100 lbs.; medium air = 1500 lbs.; heavy air = 1800 lbs.

J/27 Hull and Deck Layout

Add 12:1 boom vang and cascading backstay system. Make sure the deck layout is functional and easy to use.
